Know what to do when a tooth has been knocked out.

In dentistry we refer this as an Avulsed tooth.

It is important to get to the dentist as quickly as possible after a tooth has been knocked out. As this will give a higher possibility of saving the tooth.

• Handle the tooth carefully. Try not to touch the root of the
tooth, as it can be damaged easily
• If the tooth is dirty, hold it by the upper part [crown] and
rinse it with milk. If you don’t have any milk, rinse it with
water. Do not wipe if off with any fabric, as this can damage
the tooth
• Try slipping the tooth back into the socket, in most cases it
will slip right back in. Make sure the tooth is facing the right
direction and do not force the tooth into the socket. If you
are not able to replace the tooth into the socket, follow the
steps below.
• The most important thing is to keep the tooth moist. Drop it
into a class of milk. If you do not have any access to milk,
place the tooth in your mouth between the cheek and gum.
• Young children may not be able to safely store the tooth in
their mouth without swallowing it. instead have the child spit
into a cup and place the tooth into the cup
• And get to the dentist as soon as you can

Mouth rinses are used for a variety of reasons:

- To freshen breath,
- To help prevent or control tooth decay
- To reduce plaque (a thin film of bacteria that forms on teeth)
- To prevent or reduce gingivitis (an early stage of gum disease), - To reduce the speed that tartar forms on the teeth

Our dentist are here to help, and can recommend a mouth rinse that suits your oral health.
Give us a call on 3847 9505 for appointments.
